Statins and Cognitive Impairment

Updated: May 9, 2020

Statins are cholesterol medications that we use to prevent heart attacks and stroke. It is true that there are possible side-effects to these medications. If we can get by without using them, we do. For those with a significant health risk from their cholesterol though, volumes of medical evidence prove that they reduce health risks. One concerning side-effect has been the potential for memory problems. This recent study is a more robust look at that and suggests that these medications do not cause cognitive impairment.
